Stop Press

The Crown Princess and her Rock Doctor announced today during a birthday celebration picnic in the Botanical Gardens that they are having a baby in March 2011. They're chuffed! We are all very pleased for the happy couple.

Of course you know what that means, don't you?

I'm gonna be a GRANDMA!

Felicity's Fabulous Friday

The 13th August is International Left Handers Day.
Left handed me produced the left handed Crown Princess on the 13th August 1981

For her 11th birthday, all she wanted was a shop bought dress!

The Golden Age of Jazz Ball

Dressed for the ball in Grandma Duffy's crystal beads

Today is my what should have been my mother's 80th birthday. As I have no new pictures of her to share (she died in 1993), I'm giving my readers a picture of me taken last night dressed and ready for a ball. The beautiful crystal beads were given to me some years ago. Originally, they belonged to my mother's mother, Molly (Reid) Duffy.

Molly was given these beautiful beads back in the 1920s by my grandfather, Ven, either as a gift for their first wedding anniversary or for her 21st (I will have to ask my aunt for which). Gorgeous, aren't they?

Needles to say, we had a lovely night with friends.

The Mad Tea Party

In honour of my 50th birthday, The MOTH, Paul, & my children (The Crown Princess, Miranda; The Crown Prince, David; The Living Doll, Diana; and The Cadet Princess, Gabriella) threw me a Mad Tea Party! Everyone cooked for a week before the event. On the day, the off-spring, their father (my ex-husband) & The Crown Princess's SIL slaved away in my kitchen. They did a marvelous job, don't you think?

I thought I chose what I wore to the event, but it seems I was manipulated by the girls to choose the outfit that went best with my husband's huge surprise of dressing as The Hatter! Isn't he gorgeous?

The cooks did a wonderful job!
(This is a small sample of their work)

The gift from the children was the long-ago requested portrait to hang on the wall.
Yes, they had to do it their way, didn't they?

My beautiful babies!
They did the same thing (with teenage ninja turtle masks) when in 1991 when I wanted an official photo for their paternal grandmother in the clothes that she had bought them for Christmas!

New Zealand Break

The birthday celebrations are done, so now it's time for recovery!

The MOTH booked a unit by the inlet at Paihia in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, for this short working week between two long weekends in Brisbane, so we're playing golf in the mornings (albeit badly since we haven't played it since we were here last year), haunting the few coffee shops & restaurants that are open in the off season at lunch times & evenings, and spending the afternoon stitching. What a life!

Last year's project for the same trip was Lettres à mon Chat by Isabelle Vautier.

This year, I've taken along Dog Tower, an item from the 2010 Margaret Sherry Collection. The two pieces are not exactly a matching set, but they work well for the natures of my four legged beasties and the walls in my house.

Cute, huh?

I've also got some fiction in translation to read: The Library of Shadows by Mikkel Birkegaard. It's his first novel. I've had a sneak peek, and it seems to be quite a fun read.

Happiness & laughter to one and all. I'll fill you in on holiday details when I get back!
