My Whale

I guess if I don’t see any others, this one will do.

Tahku, the Alaska Whale Sculpture is a life-scale bronze whale sculpture of a breaching humpback rising amidst waterworks from an infinity pool located on the waterfront of Juneau.

It commemorates the 50th anniversary of Alaska being part of USA, even though it wasn’t officially unveiled until the 3rd September 2016.

Juneau - the Upside Down Forest of Glacier Gardens

It’s hard to believe that these beautiful gardens became famous because
a man named Steve threw a hissy fit, but that’s exactly what happened.

The flower towers are made by inverting a spruce or hemlock tree with the “root ball” pointing towards the sky. The tree trunk is buried 5-7 feet into the ground. Then, each year Steve Bowhay personally plants each flower tower with around 75-100 remarkable, colourful, flowering plants.
This is garden art at it’s finest!

Juneau - Mendenhall Glacier

Mendenhall Glacier is one of the most beautiful and accessible glaciers in the U.S., loved for its dazzling blue glacial ice that stretches for 13.6 miles.

We took a bus tour that covered both the glacier and Glacier Gardens.

I’ll let the amazing photos speak for themselves.

Of course, there were the obligatory selfies!
Paul loved this outdoor adventure!

Hugo had asked for a photo with a polar bear.
This one was dead & stuffed, but it still gave me the creeps!
