Today is 40 years since I finished high school.
Where did that time go?
Here’s a potted version of my life’s timeline of milestones since 1977 …
1978. Student nurse in Maryborough, same town where I met William. My 1st cat.
1980. 1st marriage, a trip to NZ and a move to Rockhampton.❤️❤️
1981. Graduation then Miranda. ❤️❤️
1983. David ❤️❤️
1984. Moved to Cloncurry
1986. Diana ❤️❤️ and a move to Townsville in December.
1987. Worked full time at Mater Hosp (bank wouldn’t give us a loan if I didn’t) rode my pushbike home at break times to feed the baby. In July, Will went to Gladstone (he applied for a job which he didn’t tell me about). Kids & I followed in Sept when he told me he wasn’t coming back to Townsville.
1988. Gabs ❤️❤️
1989. Set my house on fire 😝
1990. Railway stn burnt down. Will’s work colleagues asked if I was cooking, att. Fortunately, we were out of town, that weekend.
1991. First dog, a labrador named Lizzie. January, I went back to full time work. Again.
1992. William wanted to go back to Townsville at the beginning of the year. Townsville house reno saga. Will went out for a beer with a mate, not to return ... He said he left because I didn’t do enough for his career.
1993. Coping alone with 4 small kids. My mother died. I also went back to work, this time to TGH, 5 shifts per fortnight.
1994. The cat died. We got another.
1995. I went to university to get cheap piano lessons.
1997. The dog died. To France mid year for abt a year (over a couple of trips). It was like long service leave! 😝
1998. Return to Townsville mid year. Alex the dog.
1999. Katie the dog.
2001. End of uni studies.
2002. Dad died. I moved to Mackay for MY work. I met Paul at the end of the year.
2004. To Brisbane for Paul’s work. I taught until Perth move(though I did some call in work when we first came over). How on earth did I still keep getting employment when I kept moving so much? A holiday in Bali.
2005. A new cat & a 2nd marriage.
2006. We went to Europe with Gabs.
2007. Lucy
2008. Harry

2016/7 Fashion Design. I have just finished.
2017. Still in Perth.
My thoughts about this life of mine?
Life is not a dress rehearsal. Live well, laugh often, love much.
Decide to be happy.
Smile even when you don’t feel like it.
Don’t eat too much. Losing weight is difficult.
Don’t be a wall flower. Jump right in wherever you are in life.
Make plans, both long & short term.
Write them down.
Write other lists.
Take risks when making important decisions.
Plant a garden.
Read.
Accept invitations whenever possible.
Be active about your own education and your own health.
Walk the dog every day.
Never text when you have had too much to drink.
Forgive and forget.
Go to therapy when you need it.
Take photographs or be in photographs. You always look better than you thought you did when you look at the photos five years later.
Listen to music but enjoy silence.
Be busy but know how to do nothing.
Sleep when you can.
Write & send Christmas cards!
I have been in love and been loved back at least 4 times in my life.
I have a fabulous family of sisters & off-spring who are at the core of my being. Without them I am stuffed! I miss living close to them on a day-to-day basis. I plan to change that arrangement before the end of 2018.
In my life there has been far too much alone time, too much HARD work, too many big moves where I lost too much, no long term history anywhere, no real place I can now call home BUT...
I am very happy cos I have a fabulous collection of lovely people who I call friends, who have made efforts to stay in touch (some over many decades).
It wasn’t the kind of life I wanted for myself, but I chose to marry 2 workaholics with their own professional agendas.
Overall, I think I have been blessed.
Tonight we’re off on a date.
WASO will perform John Williams’ unforgettable Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets score while the film plays in high-definition on a 40-foot screen, tonight.
