Perth Cops a Drenching

Heavy overnight rains have been great for the gardens. Source: The Courier-Mail

PERTH was drenched in more than 38mm of rain overnight - in the heaviest downpour so far this year.

The heavens opened about 4pm in Perth, with coastal areas receiving some drops about 3pm.

Motorists were impacted by the wet roads – 24 car accidents were reported during the wet weather, with some crashes attributed to the rain.

A spokesman for the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) said there were only a few minor roof leaks causing damage to homes.

Perth had 38.6mm of rain as of 1am this morning. South Perth and Floreat both recorded 59mm.

In the Hills, Gidgegannup had 23mm of rain, while Bickley recorded 24mm.

Champion Lakes and Jandakot also recorded high readings of 32mm and 26mm respectively.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Mark Paull said the mean rainfall for Perth was 43.9mm throughout April.

So far, the city has recorded more than 60mm of rain this month.

Mr Paull said another 15mm could be expected today, with showers then clearing as winds push the rain band out.

Birthday 2012

Third Annual
Mad Tea Party

Jill & Pam, Jo & Ken, Irene & Paul joined the MOTH & me for the annual birthday event on Sunday, 22nd April. As usual, there was lots of laughter, hot tea and coffee and experimental cooking. A good time was had by all.
Pam & Jill

Jill
The actual day, the 23rd, was quite quiet. After the big day the day before, this poor (getting older) birthday girl took it quite easy until dinner time when she and The MOTH walked to Northbridge for a spaghetti dinner. Yum!

My birthday gift from The MOTH was tickets to see

Mary Poppins The Musical

I loved the books and the Disney film when I was young.

This was a very fitting event considering that P.L. Travers (born as Helen Lyndon Goff; 9 August 1899 – 23 April 1996) was born in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia (where I spent 6 of my teenage years) and then died on my 36th birthday.

A holiday in WA with visiting family

Felicity & Paul on holidays

Ken on holiday

Life has been hot-to-trot here with all our visitors.

My sister, Lisa, and her husband, Ken, came for 10 days. We toured the countryside, went wine tasting at both Margaret River and Swann Valley vineyards, called into a few breweries for boutique beer (I've discovered that Breweries can make their beers sound as pretentious as vineyards when promoting their product), and munched on a fair amount of chocolate from the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. Now and again, we had healthy stuff like home cooked roast pork-belly, choc fudge and a delightful spiced caramel tart ... my waistline needs tightening with workouts from the gym! LOL

David & Nadia were here over Easter on an overlap with Lisa & Ken's visit. They left to go home on last night's midnight plane.

Nadia's crab and muscle lunch at Fremantle

We took Nadia & David to New Norcia, a Benedictine Monastery town, on Thursday.
On Friday night we went to a Korean restauarant (Nadia is Korean-born) and then to a classics concert put on by the Western Australia Symphony Orchestra (remembering that David is a concert cellist). Yesterday, we went again to Fremantle for the Saturday markets and to see where the America's Cup was launched in 1987 (which was the first time for 132 years that it had not been defended by the New York Yacht Club).

Paul's wonderful lunch at Fremantle, yesterday

This week, I have to catch up on letter writing, finish a poncho for Paul's niece's step-daughter and go to a WA Embroiderers Guild tutorial on bag making. The latter requires that I buy a new/second hand sewing machine. It'll be good to fall-back into routines of going to cross stitch group, the early morning gym sessions, etc.

Lucy & Harry's puppies are as cute as 'cute' can be! We visit them every week and marvel at how much they have grown. I'm really surprised at how Lucy will let Harry near the puppies as much as he wants but shows her teeth to every other mutt on the farm. I would have thought she would be more tolerant of other female dogs in preference to Harry, but no. Those two muttlies are definitely bonded for life.

The following week, I'm having a Mad Tea Party to celebrate my birthday with my girlie friends. It's next Sunday, the 22nd even though my birthday is Monday, the 23rd. Paul's taking me to see Mary Poppins, the Musical, on Wednesday night. I can harldy wait for any of the events!

Meanwhile, the weather is much, much cooler. Autumn has arrived. Yee haa!

Puppy Update - No. 2

First things first:
It's Harry's 4th Birthday today!

Lucy has declared that
he is allowed to come and go as he pleases
but any other dog who goes near the puppies
gets a show of a row of teeth and a growl.

The puppies are 12 days old &
Their noses have turned black

My sister, Lisa, with a puppy.
She and her husband are visiting us from Queensland.

Proud Gramma Flick with another pup.

There is only a small window of opportunity to win.
I'll pull a name out of the hat in 24 hours' my time.

13th April Update:

Everyone who commented is a winner.
I'll be in contact with the four comment makers in a few days.

Happiness & laughter to one and all,
